October 25, 2024
After weeks of anticipation and buildup, the time has finally come. Taking place this Friday, October 25th, the sixth edition of the Abu Dhabi Extreme Championship made its way back to the Mubadala Arena, in the UAE, bringing some of the best competitors from both Jiu-Jitsu and MMA to enter its merciless cage and show their grappling skills. As always, fight fans worldwide could follow every second of the action through the modern TX7.com platform.
This time around, the organization went bigger than ever before, bringing 15 fights and three Main Events to the ADXC 6. In the catchweight Grappling Main Event, which closed the tournament, the Brazilian Rogério Bontorin, who joined the card less than a week before the event, got the better of the favorite Muhammad Mokaev. With a strong takedown game, Mokaev held nothing back and went at the Brazilian aiming to control the flow of the match, bringing his opponent to the floor of the cage multiple times. Rogerio, however, had no intentions of just taking the punishment and recovered quickly from each takedown, becoming more and more effective as the match went on. With attacks on the neck and always moving forward, while also avoiding Mokaev’s armlock and takedown attempts, Rogerio used his counter-attacks and was always looking for the fight, which helped him win via split decision.
“Mission accomplished”, said a proud Rogerio after his victory. “No one would take this match with only five days to go. I’d like to thank the event for the opportunity and hope I’ll have the chance to compete here again when I’m properly trained, so I can show my true potential.”
Meanwhile, Jansen Gomes got himself another trophy as he came out on top of his duel against Uanderson Ferreira in the Jiu-Jitsu Main Event. A match between two of the most offensive competitors in the middleweight division, the fight more than lived up to the hype as both sides had ups and downs throughout the five rounds. With foot attacks and stellarly executed takedowns, Uanderson sought to take control of the bout, but Jansen always seemed to be one step ahead. He defended takedowns, positioned himself well to avoid submissions, and used his strong top game to control Uanderson’s advances in the cage. Add to the mix some well-landed takedowns and a lot of pressure over the course of the duel, and the referees were all convinced that Jansen Gomes deserved to be the winner.
As for the lightweight Grappling Main Event, Patchy Mix left no room for doubt when it comes to his prowess, as he took the win over Kairat Akhmetov in a stellar performance. A duel between MMA champs, with Patchy coming from Bellator and Kairat from One Championship, the former had his technical depth on full display as he worked his way around the latter’s powerful takedown game. From the get-go, Kairat showed just how dangerous he could be as he comfortably threw his opponent around in the cage, but Patchy responded with some good double-leg takedowns and then showed his prowess as he used his pressure from the top to pass the guard and even mount. After almost landing a spine twister in the last round, Patchy got a well-deserved victory via unanimous decision.
While the Main Events had more than enough action to go around, the ADXC 6 featured many other breathtaking battles in the beautiful Mubadala Arena. Check out how the Co-Main Events, Main Card, and Preliminary Card matches played out below.
CO-MAIN EVENTS
Bruno Lima vs Isaque Bahiense (Jiu-Jitsu Bout)
Representing his home country of Portugal, Bruno Lima got himself another victory in the ADXC, and over one of the greatest names of the middleweight division to boot. Facing the aggressive Isaque Bahiense, Bruno fought well standing and used some surprise sweeps to overcome the Brazilian. Isaque showed some great wrestling as he pushed his opponent to the cage wall and tried to go for the legs, but Bruno had the best moves of the match as he used his powerful judo, used his hooks to sweep, and just proved himself to be a very smart fighter overall, controlling and avoiding Isaque’s game as the situation demanded. A solid victory via unanimous decision for the Portuguese athlete.
Jussier Formiga vs Tagir Ulanbekov (Grappling Bout)
In an intense match, the Brazilian Jussier Formiga used his razor-sharp Jiu-Jitsu to get the better of the Russian Tagir Ulanbekov. Using fast submission attacks and very technical back takes, Jussier had the flow of the match under his control. Tagir also had some good moments during the bout, between a guillotine attempt and some beautiful takedowns, but Formiga showed better moves throughout the five rounds and took the win via unanimous decision.
MAIN CARD
Pedro Machado vs Jackson Sousa (Jiu-Jitsu Bout)
In a duel highlighted by Pedro Machado using his firm grips and Jackson Sousa trying to get side control, the former ended up with the win. Representing Atos Jiu-Jitsu, Pedro kept his opponent on his toes at all times as he tried to throw him off balance from the guard and made some dangerous sweep attempts. At the end of it all, the referees unanimously decided in favor of Pedro.
Catriel Rodrigues vs Moritz Kollensperger (Grappling Bout)
Control and strategy were the recipe for Catriel’s success in his ADXC debut. Facing Austria’s Moritz Kollensperger, the Dubai-based Brazilian Catriel worked from the top in a very sober fashion, always making a point to release Moritz’s grips from his legs to open the way for his guard passes, back takes, and arm attacks. In addition to playing very well from the top, Catriel was also very aggressive from the bottom and managed to convince the referees, who all decided in favor of the Brazilian.
Rolando Samson vs Lucas Protasio (Jiu-Jitsu Bout)
A classic battle between guard player and guard passer ended up with a win for the former, as the American Rolando Samson used his technical prowess to neutralize the advances of Brazil’s Lucas Protasio. Working very well with a lapel guard, Rolando avoided Lucas’ pressure and defended passing attempts before sweeping to take control of the bout. Lucas tried to tip the scales with a few submission attempts, but Rolando’s strategic game convinced the majority of the referees of his victory.
João Zeferino vs Yan Cabral (Grappling Bout)
In the clash of former UFC athletes, João Zeferino emerged victorious. Facing the Spain-based Brazilian Yan Cabral in the cage, João took his opponent down, swept, and even attempted with a heel hook over the course of the duel, but the deciding move was made in the third round, as João managed to take the back and locked a painful crossface to earn his second win in the ADXC.
Emily Ferreira vs Ludmila Fiori (Jiu-Jitsu Bout)
Back in the ADXC after almost a year, Emily Ferreira had her eyes set on a submission to get her second win in the organization. This time facing Ludmila Fiori, Emily revealed her hand in the first round as she attempted to submit with a kimura from the guard. Ludmila defended herself well, but Emily tried again in the third round and ended up in an even better position, spinning to get on top and then unleashing her kimura with pinpoint accuracy.
PRELIMS CARD
Luccas Lira vs Marat Kurbanov (Grappling Bout)
Joining the card at the last minute, Luccas Lira made his debut in the ADXC with a victory over Marat Kurbanov, using his fast and flashy game to beat his Russian opponent. Youness Bennouali vs Yaroslav Rymashevkii (Jiu-Jitsu Bout)
Brown belts Youness and Yaroslav put on an intense duel at the Mubadala Arena, with both sides aiming to get the drop on each other with quick moves and surprise attacks. With neither competitor managing to land a submission, the duel remained incredibly balanced throughout the three rounds and Youness Bennouali ended up taking the victory via split decision.
Valor Boyer vs Riki Yoshinaga (Grappling Bout)
Matching his aggressiveness with a healthy dose of strategy, Valor Boyer swung for the fences as he scrambled from below against Riki Yoshinaga. After sweeping and nearly getting a katagatame submission in the first round, Valor managed to seal the deal on the second part of the fight, doing a spin from below, isolating one of Riki’s legs, attacking with foot lock, and then shifting to a tight aoki lock to take the win.
Carol Brunácio vs Dayane Bazzoni (Jiu-Jitsu bout)
In the first women’s duel of the night, Carol Brunácio landed a win over AJP veteran Dayane Bazzoni in her ADXC debut. Playing an intense guard game and controlling the duel with firm grips on her opponent’s sleeves, Carol showed her skills as she unleashed attacks on the foot and then on the arm, with both posing a real threat to Dayane. At the end of the third round, which ended with both competitors trying to submit one another, the match was left up to the referees, who unanimously decided in favor of Carol Brunácio.
Jaures Dea vs Hamza Hamry (Grappling bout)
Opening the ADXC 6 with a Grappling Bout, “The Crazy Cameroonian” Jaures Dea showcased his skills and pressure as he defeated Hamza Hamry. After cornering his Tunisian opponent on the cage, Jaures took him down with a double-leg, landed in the half-guard, used his knee to mount, and when Hamza left his arm undefended, attacked with an unorthodox armbar, using his knee to make the lever against Hamza’s elbow and taking the first win of the tournament with only a couple of minutes on the clock.
