Set to take place this Sunday, November 17th, the ADXC 7 is still a few days away, but the fight week attractions have already begun. Held this Friday, November 15th, the press conference was held at Riocentro, presenting fight fans and the media with the chance to get an in-depth look at the athletes and their expectations for the upcoming event.
After a brief and inspiring opening by the IVSM General Manager Mr. Tareq Al Bahri, the stars of the show were called to sit side-by-side on the stage. One of the Grappling Main Event leads, Rodolfo Vieira spoke about how it felt to be back competing in his hometown.
“First of all, I’d like to thank ADXC for giving me the chance to be a part of this event. I never thought I’d see grappling reach this level and have this kind of structure behind it. I’m thrilled to be fighting in Rio de Janeiro and against Derek, who is a very tough opponent with great wrestling skills. I never fought under a ruleset like this one, so I’ve been training even harder for the upcoming match.”
Tasked with facing Rodolfo Vieira this Sunday, Derek Brunson took the stage with the swagger and confidence that can only come from experience, and he was not shy about his plans for facing the Jiu-Jitsu legend on his own turf.
“I’m excited to be here and looking forward to competing for you guys. Vieira has a huge Jiu-Jitsu background, so I’m looking forward to testing my game against him. The Brazilian fans have always been good to me, but beating him would also be great for my career, so I’ll be looking forward to spoiling your party.”
Joining the competition in the Jiu-Jitsu Main Event, Paulo Miyao talked about being in Rio de Janeiro to compete and how he’s been preparing for his duel on Sunday.
“I’d like to thank everyone who came here today and also the ADXC organizers. This is a great opportunity for me to compete in Rio de Janeiro again, it’s been almost ten years since I’ve been here to fight and this place just has a different vibe, so I’m very excited for the match. I’ve been trying to train a little bit of everything, but lately, I’ve been focusing more on my top game. Still, If I end up on the bottom, that’ll be great too.”
Coming as Paulo’s counterpart in the Jiu-Jitsu Main Event, the rookie black belt Junior Righetti expressed his happiness to be a part of the ADXC 7 and how thrilled he is to be facing one of the most well-known athletes in the sport.
“Thanks to ADXC 7 for giving me this chance. I’m really happy to be here and was speechless when I got the invitation. Paulo is a legend and being here about to face him means a lot to me, it means that everything I did and went through to get here was worth it. This is a unique opportunity and I’m very confident about the match, I’ll be constantly looking for the submission.”
Moving on to the Grappling Co-Main Event, Piter Frank was very outspoken as he talked about what being there meant to him. “This is like living a dream, people shouting my name while surrounded by talented competitors. I’m here to win, but most of all, I’m here to put on a show.”
That showmanship is something that Gesias Cavalcante, Piter’s opponent in the upcoming tournament, also shared. “When you want something and you work hard to reach that goal, there can only be one result, and winning is no different. It’s clear that we both love this sport, so we’ll enter the cage to give you all a show.”
As for the Jiu-Jitsu Co-Main Event, the Brazilian Meyram Maquiné showed his excitement for the competition but left no room for doubt about the outcome of his match. “I’m happy to be a part of this event and to be able to take my energy to the cage. I’ll be fighting as aggressively as always, and that fight will end in a submission.”
Coming as Meyram’s opponent, Sebastian Serpa showed interest in how the ADXC rules might affect their performances. “This will be our second time competing, this first one was in the Abu Dhabi World Pro. Under this ruleset, we’ll be able to see more of each other’s games and fight more aggressively.”
The ADXC 7 is set to take place in Rio de Janeiro this Sunday, November 17th, with all fights broadcast live and exclusively on the TX7.com platform. Follow @adxcofficial on social media to stay up-to-date on all things ADXC, and we’ll see you in Brazil!
