ADXC 8: Everything you need to know about the competition in Al Ain

December 5, 2024

Closing 2024 on a high note, the eighth edition of the Abu Dhabi Extreme Championship is ready to put on another memorable show as the organization returns to its birthplace in the UAE. Set to take place this Friday, December 6th, in Al Ain’s Adnec Centre, the ADXC 8 once again brings together some of the toughest competitors in both Jiu-Jitsu and MMA to show their grappling skills inside the cage.

With all duels broadcast live and exclusively at the TX7.com platform, the ADXC 8 will feature 13 matches in its line-up, between Grappling and Jiu-Jitsu bouts in the Main Card, Showcase, and Prelims. With the action-packed tournament just around the corner, let’s take a closer look at what the ADXC 8 has in store for this Friday.

MAIN CARD

Starting on the Main Card, UFC fighters Amir Albazi and Jafel Filho go toe-to-toe in a featherweight Grappling bout. An Iraqi MMA fighter with 17 wins in his professional career and half of those coming via submission, Amir Albazi makes his ADXC debut and brings the ground game he honed for the cages to look for his first win in the organization, but he’ll have to contend with Jafel Filho, an aggressive and technical Brazilian mixed martial artist who made a name for himself by getting the three taps on ten out of his 16 victories in the sport.

Bringing another Grappling bout to the ADXC 8, Roberto Cyborg and Haisam Rida show their skills in the heavyweight division. A Brazilian ADXC veteran with a 1-1 record in the organization, Roberto Cyborg returns to the cage aiming to use his takedown game and pressure passes to overwhelm his opponent and earn another trophy, but the Ghanaian Haisam Rida has different plans for his ADXC debut and he’ll be ready to use all of his aggressiveness and agility to defeat his veteran foe and taste victory in the UAE.

In a Jiu-Jitsu bout, Thalison Soares and Khaled Al Shehhi don their gis and fight for the trophy in the bantamweight division. Coming from a victory in the organization, the Brazilian Thalison Soares is back in the ADXC just a few weeks after taking the ADWPJJC 2024 gold, and he’ll be looking to use his fast transitions to rack up another high-profile win in his career. On the other side, the Emirati Khaled Al Shehhi brings the best of his game to look for another win in the ADXC cage, coming in hot from a great season featuring three ADGS golds and a victory over Leonardo Mario in the ADXC 4.

In the lightweight division, Movlid Khaybulaev and James Gallagher clash in a Grappling bout. Also known as “Killer”, Movlid Khaybulaev is a Russian MMA fighter currently competing at PFL with 21 victories and no losses to his name, meaning he’s one of the most dangerous warriors to ever step inside the ADXC cage. Meanwhile, James Gallagher is an Irish mixed martial artist signed with Bellator that boasts nine out of his 12 professional wins coming via submission, and he’ll bring that tried-and-true ground game to take his very first ADXC victory in Al Ain.

Closing the Main Card, the Brazilians Maria Luisa Delahaye and Brenda Larissa enter the flyweight division with a Jiu-Jitsu bout. After taking the 55kg ADWPJJC 2024 gold just four months after becoming a black belt, Maria Luisa Delahaye brings all her talent and technique to look for her very first ADXC win, but she’ll have to go up against the heavily decorated Brenda Larissa, a powerful athlete who stands among the best in her weight class and who’ll also be joining her first fight in the organization with her sights set in the trophy.

SHOWCASE AND PRELIMINARY CARD

Coming before the Main Card, the Showcase brings three exciting matches between talented Youth athletes in the organization’s cage. In a Grappling bout, Daniel “220v” Poncio faces Thor Koringa, while Saif Al Ameri takes on Pablo Henrique in a Jiu-Jitsu bout, and Salem Al Qubaisi clashes against Mukhammad Ramazanov in another Jiu-Jitsu bout.

Opening the competition, the Preliminary Card features five explosive duels that will set the tone for the rest of the tournament. In the lightweight division, Omar Alfadhli and Nicolás Ponce will face each other in a Jiu-Jitsu bout, while Bakhromjon Ruziev goes toe-to-toe against Mido Mohamed in a bantamweight Grappling bout. Still in the card, Abdulmalik Al-Murdhi and Eduardo Farfan test their Jiu-Jitsu in the catchweight division, Ahmad Al Bousari collides with Craig McIntosh in a welterweight Grappling bout, and Shamma Al Kalbani tests her skills against Peiqin Ge in a bantamweight Jiu-Jitsu bout.

December 5, 2024

With the eighth edition of the Abu Dhabi Extreme Championship set to begin this Friday, December 6th, the organization has already kicked off the many attractions that precede the competition during the fight week. After the open workout session that took place last Monday, the athletes and organizers of the tournament gathered in the Adnec Centre, in Al Ain, to talk about the upcoming show.

Kicking off the conference, the IVSM General Manager Mr. Tareq Al Bahri opened up about how proud he is about the tournament and reassured attending fight fans and media outlets of the UAE’s commitment to achieve excellence in combat sports.

“As we celebrate the 53rd UAE National Day , I am pleased to welcome you all to this great event that carries within it the pride in our national identity and authentic heritage, as well as reflects our commitment to continuing the path of excellence in the sports of Jiu-Jitsu, grappling, and mixed martial arts. We continue to present the strongest championships, inspired by excellence and creativity from our wise leadership and the vision of the Emirates that combines a rich heritage and innovation. In this context, we would also like to thank the Regional Development Department in the Al Ain and Al Dhafra Region of the Department of Culture and Tourism for their distinguished efforts and great interest in supporting the championship and its athletes, which had a significant impact in enhancing the status and development of these sports.”

After that, Mr.Saeed Al Dhaheri, the director of the Regional Development Department in Al Ain and Al Dhafra’s Department of Culture and Tourism, offered his thoughts about the effects of creating such a powerful event and encouraged people to explore the beautiful city of Al Ain.

“This tournament contributes to strengthening the emirate’s position as a global destination for sporting events and highlights how sports can unite everyone under its banner. We encourage you to go beyond the competition and explore the city’s splendor alongside its culture, hospitality, historical landmarks, and unique markets. We see the athletes as a source of inspiration with their determination and resolve, and we wish them success. The continued support and enthusiasm shown by the public and the media also enhance the distinction of our events. We extend special thanks to the tournament organizers and wish everyone a unique experience in Al Ain.”

Following the organizers, the athletes who will compete in the ADXC 8 received the floor and talked about their expectations for the event. For his part, Amir Albazi, who will be featured in a Grappling bout against Jafel Filho, thanked the organization and showed himself to be excited about his upcoming match.

“First, I want to thank everyone here”, said Amir. “My career as a competitor started in Jiu-Jitsu and one of my first major tournaments was right here in the UAE, so I’m very excited to be back. My opponent may be good at it, but Jiu-Jitsu is what I do best.”

Unshaken by Amir’s confidence, Jafel Filho not only was happy to be a part of the competition but also gave the attending crowd a sneak peek into his plans to taste his first victory in the ADXC.

“I’m really happy to be here”, opened Jafel. “I came here all the way from Brazil and I have no problems about facing a challenge. In fact, I believe this will be great for my career. I’ll be looking to land a choke, but I’m also willing to take an arm or leg if I get the chance.”

Set to face Haisam Rida in another Main Card Grappling bout, Roberto Cyborg talked about how thrilling it is to be back in the United Arab Emirates to compete and how his stay in Al Ain has been going.

“It is a great privilege to be here once again”, started Cyborg. “I’ve been competing in the UAE for the last decade, so it is a gift to be able to be here for the 53rd anniversary of a culture that has embraced Jiu-Jitsu and done so much for it. We were very well received here in Al Ain. We made a point to visit the historical sites and learn more about the heritage and culture, so I’d like to thank you all for the opportunity. I love living this moment.”

Meanwhile, a focused Haisam Rida talked about participating in the ADXC and how its format may help him emerge victorious come Friday.
