ADXC 9: Chaine, Sousa, Vetoraci, Frank, and all the athletes that rose in Paris

April 19, 2025
The time has finally come for the ninth edition of the Abu Dhabi Extreme Championship. Opening the organization's calendar for 2025, the ADXC 9 had fight fans counting down the seconds during the fight week and culminated in a spectacular event this Saturday, April 19th, bringing some of the toughest athletes from the international scene to fight for glory inside Grappling's most famous cage.
In the Jiu-Jitsu Main Event, the French Olympic Champion Guillaume Chaine added the ADXC trophy to his extensive record as an athlete. Facing the MMA veteran Thibault Gouti inside the cage, Guillaume showcased his skills as he landed Judo takedowns and almost got the submission with a particularly dangerous armbar (also known as "jujigatame" in Judo). For his part, Thibault managed to avoid the submission attempts and dished out both single and double-legs, but Guillaume's performance and aggressiveness were more than enough to tip the scales in his favor and give him the victory via unanimous decision.
Meanwhile, the Grappling Main Event was marked by another winning performance by Gabriel Sousa, who defeated Anthony de Oliveira in a battle of technique and, most of all, stamina. With both athletes fighting aggressively at all times, the duel was marked by takedown attempts and dangerous exchanges on the ground, with Gabriel standing out with the most attacks throughout the match. In the fourth round, Gabriel used the cage wall to land another takedown, entering Anthony's half-guard and locking a winning katagatame to conquer his second win in the organization.
Before that, the Jiu-Jitsu Co-Main Event saw Davi Vetoraci make good on his promise to defeat Faris Ben-Lamkadem. After a somewhat heated exchange during the press conference and some sharp remarks by both sides, tensions were running high inside the ADXC cage, with Faris working from the top with good passing and takedown attempts while Davi used his dangerous lasso guard to control the match while he attacked in the omoplata and loop choke. After five intense rounds, Davi emerged victorious via unanimous decision.
In the Grappling Co-Main Event, the flashy Piter Frank put on another explosive showing as he landed a first-round submission on Nicholas Renier. Renier started better in the duel with a takedown attempt, but Piter was fast on his feet and responded with an unexpected leap into an inverted triangle, getting the drop on his opponent while he quickly adjusted submission to get the three taps in the first few minutes of the bout.
Paving the way for the Main and Co-Main Events, the ADXC 9 brought a lot of action to the event with duels in the Main and PreliminaryN Cards in addition to the always-exciting Showcase matches. At the end of it all, Reda took the win via decision.
Salla Simola vs Aurelie Le Vern (Grappling bout)
Representing Finland, Salla Simola defeated the local Aurelie Le Vern in an incredibly taxing duel for both sides. With both sides constantly on the attack, Salla managed to stand out with a very strong game on the bottom as she dished out sweep and submission attempts, making some memorable advances on the foot and with a kimura while avoiding Aurelie's crushing pressure from the top to come out as the winner via decision.
PRELIMINARY CARD AND SHOWCASE
Thani Al Mehairi vs Garnik Zeynalyan (Youth Jiu-Jitsu bout)
Fighting in the third and last Showcase match of the night, the Emirati Thani Al Mehairi made his way into the cage with his sights set on a submission win. Ruan Alvarenga vs Yigit Hanay (Grappling bout)
The Brazilian Ruan Alvarenga got the win in the last Prelim match after a very balanced duel against Yigit Hanay. For his part, Yigit had some great moments as he worked from the bottom with submission attempts on the foot and good positional control, but Ruan's performance was enough to convince the majority of the referees as he maintained the pressure while looking for the pass and even attempted a dangerous guillotine choke.
Stephanie Faure vs Tamara Toros (Jiu-Jitsu bout)
Another French athlete taking the victory in their home country, Stephanie Faure got the better of the Spaniard Tamara Toros, who started very well in the duel attacking with triangle and Omoplata attempts. Despite her rocky start, Stephanie unleashed her Jiu-Jitsu and turned the tables on the second round, landing a beautiful takedown before almost getting the sub with a dangerous armbar. In the final round, Stephanie continued on top and maintained the pressure high to control the match and convince the referees, who voted unanimously for her win.
Mark McQueen vs Luc Rousseau (Grappling bout)
A quick win for the Scottish Mark McQueen in his ADXC Debut. Facing the local Luc Rousseau, Mark quickly attacked with a takedown before advancing to the half-guard and then passing. Under a lot of pressure from his opponent, Luc tried to escape and ended up giving up his back, opening the way for Mark to end the bout with a crossface.
Mia Perdomo vs Chloe Hyraud (Youth Jiu-Jitsu bout)
The second Showcase match of the night saw Spain's Mia Montesinos Perdomo get a lightning-fast submission win over the local Chloe Hyraud. Controlling the distance from the get-go, Mia pulled guard and pushed Chloe's face before locking a tight armbar to receive the three taps in the first minute of the duel.
Junior Orgulho vs Robson Gracie (Jiu-Jitsu bout)
In an unexpected turn of events, the Brazilian Junior Orgulho emerged victorious after sustaining an injury during the fight against his compatriot Robson Gracie, who kicked off the match by pulling, sweeping, and then working from the top to look for a guard pass. However, Robson saw Junior's foot unprotected and promptly attacked with an inside heel hook, an illegal submission in the ADXC's rules for Jiu-Jitsu matches, resulting in Robson's disqualification.
Kasper Larsen vs Tyrone Gonsalves (Grappling bout)
Another ADXC victory for the Danish powerhouse Kasper Larsen's resumé. Facing the Guianese Tyrone Gonsalves, who started better in the match with some great grid work, Kasper showed his prowess in the second round as he attacked with a single-leg takedown before locking a guillotine choke, which Tyrone defended well. In the final round, Kasper went for the guillotine again, adjusting it even tighter to receive the three taps.
Davis Asare vs Freddy Lele Talla (Jiu-Jitsu bout)
Fighting out of Norway, Davis Asare got the better of the local Freddy Lele Talla in a very balanced match. With Davis dishing out submission attempts on the foot and triangle, and Freddy working well from the top while looking for the pass, the match was locked in a stalemate until the final round, with Freddy attacking with a dangerous armbar and Davis defending well before almost taking the back. When the clock ran out, Davis' performance was enough to convince the majority of the referees and he took the win via split decision.
Davi Aganov vs Sultan Abdurashidov (Youth Grappling bout)
Opening the event, the first Showcase match ended up with Davi Aganov using his bottom game to beat Sultan Abdurashidov.
